We are a private high school, grades 9 – 12. The minimum age for enrollment is 16. Students under 16 are considered on a case by case basis.

Our purpose is to offer a traditional curriculum, either college preparatory or general, through a non-traditional approach that focuses on mastery of prescribed material, and allows each student to progress at his or her own pace with individual instruction.

Hallie Turner Private School is Accredited with Quality by the Georgia Accrediting Commission (GAC).

Hallie Turner Private School is a unique educational institution awarding a high school diploma to those who successfully complete our graduation requirements. Our purpose is to offer a traditional curriculum, either college preparatory or general, through a non-traditional approach that focuses on mastery of prescribed material, and allows each student to progress at his or her own pace with individual instruction.
In keeping with its purpose, Hallie Turner Private School strives to preserve the philosophy of its founder, Mrs. Hallie A. Turner, that “each student is an individual and should be treated as such”. In doing so, our goal is to afford each student the opportunity to experience success in education.
Our History
Hallie Turner Private School began in 1935 with a small ad in the Columbus newspaper. This ad resulted in one student sitting at Mrs. Hallie A. Turner’s dining room table. But one pupil was all Miss Hallie needed.
Little did Mrs. Turner realize at the time that her efforts would be the beginning of a school that would flourish and grow to have a marked effect on the community. Mrs. Turner’s philosophy was “Each student is an individual and should be treated as such.” She implemented her philosophy through individual attention and self-paced study, often teaching the student how to study. Through the years, Mrs. Turner helped many students reach their education goals.
Over eighty years later, here we are, still doing the same thing…teaching individuals how to learn…each at his or her own pace.
Mrs. Hallie A. Turner, Founder
Mrs. Hallie A. Turner began what would later become Hallie Turner Private School by giving private lessons in her home. She wanted to help students who had fallen behind. She did so by teaching them not only the subject matter, but also by teaching them how to study the subject matter themselves. Mrs. Turner believed in the potential of each individual student.
“Give a pupil three tools: Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic. With these he will develop pride in himself and will never be a behavior problem.
Challenge him to use every bit of brain the Lord gave him and he will learn. He’ll learn right from wrong, good from bad, and thus will find happiness.
An artist gets a thrill in creating a picture; a poet must write poetry. But to me, there is no thrill like that of watching a mind develop. A teacher works with the most marvelous creation of the Almighty – the human brain. What higher calling could one have!”

General Information
- We are a private high school, grades 9 – 12. Our students are generally high school age and sometimes older. Younger students in grades 7 and 8 are considered on a case by case basis.
- We offer all core subject requirements as set forth for earning a high school diploma in the state of Georgia.
- We offer college preparatory courses.
- Our average class size is 12 students.
- We specialize in individual attention.
- Our students work at their own pace to complete course requirements and meet course standards.
- We offer both day and night programs.
- SCHOOL HOURS:
Day school: Monday – Thursday, 8:45 -12:30
Night school: Tuesday and Thursday, 6:00 – 9:00 - We provide “makeup” courses for many area high schools. These courses can be taken during the summer or in night school during the regular school year.
- We are a HOPE Scholarship eligible school.
Accreditation
One of the most important things to consider when choosing a school is accreditation. Hallie Turner Private School is Accredited with Quality by the Georgia Accrediting Commission (GAC). GAC provides an accreditation process designed to establish and uphold standards, to strengthen the quality of education in each school, and to assure its membership and the general public that the established standards are related to the best educational practices.
